How did Rescue Legends begin?

A note from our Founder

Well, it all started with three dogs.

The first was Angel, a beagle I had as a kid. She loved to sniff and chase, true to her breed, and she was my first introduction to having a pet. But not long after we got her, we found out my sister was allergic—so Angel had to stay outside day after day. I was too young to understand the responsibilities in caring for a pet, but looking back, it broke my heart to consider her quality of life. I wish I had known more. I wish I had done better.

Years later, after some tough losses, River came into my life. He’s a Boston Terrier/Cavalier King Charles mix, and is always moving - just like a river. He became my joy, my walking buddy, my best animal care teacher, and a true example of a dog’s unconditional love.

Then came Cherry... A little dachshund mix, and very first foster dog. He was rescued from a hoarding situation—over 100 dogs in one NYC apartment. Cherry had never been outside. He moved around my home like a ghost, like he didn’t believe he deserved to be seen. The loss of dignity was palpable. I’ll never forget the way he’d look up at me in those first days, like he was saying, “What are you looking at?” But slowly, he started to change. He found hope. He discovered zoomies! And finally seeing him curled up in his new family’s arms, I knew I wanted more people—especially kids—to witness that kind of transformation.
